Field Training Services
We train all breeds of pointing dogs for hunting/field
work and we offer two options:
-
You take part in group training sessions where you learn
to train and handle your dog with our guidance. These sessions are usually
done on a weekend.
-
Your dog stays with us and we train it. Dogs are boarded
in the house and trained twice daily.
For the second option, the length of time your dog stays with
us depends on what type of training you would like us to do. The more training
involved, the longer the stay.
For either option, we will meet with you and your dog first to
discuss what type of training you want for your dog. We will also evaluate your
dog prior to making a training plan.
For either option, we train:
-
Introduction to birds - using check cords and blank guns
-
We introduce the dog to live birds (quail), point
drills, field commands, introduction to the electronic collar, and the
proper introduction to gunfire.
-
We will start developing your dog's pointing instinct and
retrieving ability. Your dog will have the hunting experience, know the
electronic collar, be steady on point, and if you desire, your dog will be
steady to wing and shot.
-
Force break to retrieve
-
Shot over on chukkar
-
Trained on both quail and chukkar

Testimonials
We took our Pointer puppy, Kenna, to Mt. View at 5 months of age. Kenna needed
to build confidence and was even a bit nervous around quail. We were amazed to
learn that within a month Kenna was becoming enthusiastic in the field and was
already doing retrieve work. Kenna stayed at Mt. View for several more months
and under their training and handling became an AKC Master Hunter at just 14
months of age – possibly the youngest Pointer to achieve this title! The Mt.
View team transformed Kenna into an outgoing, fun loving, and driven pointer.
They also did some conformation training with Kenna and she is working towards
her show championship. Mt. View takes excellent care of their dogs and those in
their care. I wouldn’t think twice about leaving any of my dogs at their
facility. They treat each dog as an individual being and adjust training and
care to each one’s needs. I can tell they truly love what they do and respect
and bond with each dog they work with whether their own or others. Their
enormous wealth of experience means they have solutions ready for a wide range
of challenges that may arise with each dog. Mt. View are top notch in my book
and I am privileged to have met them!

Dropped of Duke at Mt. View when he was one year old...no interest in birds...by
the time her was 2 years old he was a Master hunter,,, by age 3 he was a
finished AKC Field Champion and Amateur Field Champion. 4 year later came his
son Boomer,,,did not want to retrieve... after leaving him with MaryAnn for 3
weeks would retrieve even my slippers. Then came Blue...summer of 2018 had him
with MaryAnn and Pat... that fall he won the South Carolina Pointing Dog Puppy
and Derby stakes...spring 2019...Tartan Setter Field Trial won his first broke

My Mt. View Brittany is out of Tootsie/Chance breeding from 2013. I can say she
has been the best Brittany I have had. MaryAnn and Pat are great people. I
cannot thank them enough for all the guidance that they gave me through the
years. They are like family. As for my Brittany, she turned 6 on April 2019. Mya
is a champion in the show ring and has he Master Hunter title. I could not have
gone this far without MaryAnn and Pat. I was trying to get Mya to retrieve for
over a year with just no luck. I was ready to give up and MaryAnn said to me,
why don't you leave Mya here and let me see what I can do. I was meeting MaryAnn
and Pat at the dog show the following weekend. I was amazed when I received an
email from MaryAnn with a video of Mya retrieving in just 4 days. I could not
believe my eyes with what they accomplished in 4 days. I met them at the show
that next Sunday and watched as they practiced with Mya retrieving and I was
amazed. I have learned so much through the years and they became my Pennsylvania
family. It's worth the 2 hour drive I make just about every weekend. If you're
looking for a Brittany - look no further. Mt. View Brittanys can do it all.

As a physician, I researched all of the important qualities of a breeder and the
type of dogs that are produced. MaryAnn Breininger is a tried and true, serious
AKC breeder and does not accept mediocrity. It is the best of the best or
nothing. She knows how to train dogs and knows what works and what doesn't. She
will make sure her dogs are successful and will only breed the best of the best.
I have a 9 month old Brittany, Chico, who already has his Junior Hunter title
just before 9 months old! Our goal is Senior and Master Hunter titles before 2
years old and maybe we will be in the Show ring too. MaryAnn is the real
deal...she is the "go to" person for training, knowledge and breeding quality. I
am going to put a deposit on another top pedigree Brittany for 2 years from now.

Quinn, my female red setter and I have been upland bird hunting together for 7
years and she has proved to be an amazing bird dog. But from early on, the one
thing she would not do is retrieve. Once the bird was down, she would locate it,
nudge it to make sure it wasn't moving and then move on to the next bird. I
sought the help of a local trainer, but Quinn was stubborn and would not
retrieve. That's when he told me about MaryAnn, Pat and Mt. View Brittanys. He
said if anyone can get Quinn to retrieve, it would be them. So I looked up
MaryAnn's number and called. After an initial meeting and evaluation, she agreed
to help, keeping Quinn for a month. Well, When I came back in a month and she
put Quinn through her paces, it was like watching a different dog. Quinn would
race to get the thrown bird and bring it back to hand. Amazing! Every throw of
the bird was eagerly retrieved. I've since retired and do guide pheasant and
quail hunts at Wing Point, Hamburg Pa and every client I take out is impressed
with how strong and tenacious Quinn is to find the downed bird and retrieve it
back. I tell everyone it was MaryAnn, Pat and Mt. View Brittanys. All you need
to know if you want your dog trained right. On a side note: Once we came to know
MaryAnn and Pat and their beautiful dogs, we were fortunate enough to buy a
puppy form them. Addie is now 2 years old and she too is an outstanding bird dog
who quickly learned to retrieve as well. Now she goes on guided hunts and is a
hit with all the hunters all because of the guidance and training that MaryAnn
and Pat gave her. - Paul D.
